Going Green For The New Year

Posted by Beth Pickard on

Happy New Year from Talking Tables!

This January we shall be looking at ways we can all keep ourselves and our family or housemates occupied and having fun at home. This includes making the most of meal times, and getting more creative with tablescapes. This week TT's Clare discussed her new year's resolutions, and how she incorporated these into a dinner table for two:

'We find ourselves back at home, in lockdown, without our son or family support bubble. So it is time for a 'January lockdown Dinner for Two'.

After a restful break between Christmas and New Year, we feel re-charged and ready to focus on being healthy and taking in more vegetables. Being very fortunate to live close to one of the UK’s best farmer’s market, Stroud Farmers Market, we shop each Saturday for seasonal, local veg.

I was keen to try a new recipe book - Maria Gala’s 'Lick Your Plate', which was a Christmas gift. So we are in: let’s go vegan and go green!!

I started with my favourite, trusty Ella Doran photographic veg table mats, and then, as one does, featured some beautifully fresh cabbages from Stroud Famer’s market! I snuck some green chrysanthemums into bud vases along with some bay tree foliage. I used green ceramic green plates to set off our Talking Tables fern napkins. It is really looking green now!

As we are trying to stay off the booze in January, what’s better than some local fresh pure apple juice from Day’s Farm?

Let’s get those brown lentils soaking now as Lentil Shepherd’s Pie is on the menu!'
